Hello new to this.
My dad has stage 4 prostate cancer which has spread to lungs ribs spine bones. He has had radiation therapy and been put on hormone injections. Seen the oncology person and been given enzalutamide tablets. He seems ok still up and about has walking aid. Is a lot more tired and having hot flush ect but not said much else about side effects. Not taken tablets yet needs to get them first. Are these any good.? What can I do to help him? Looking into moving to be closer incase he needs additional support but is a proud man and won't ask.
Any advice and support for me would be good on what to expect and what future might hold.
Thanks 79Lady
Hi
The hormone injections will make him tired and he will lose strength and stamina. The RT has similar side effects but as he has finished these should ease off . Its important that he tries to keep moving and exercise despite maybe not feeling like it.
Can't comment on the tablets he will be taking as without naming them it's difficult to say.
There are others on here that will be able to say more about the spread to his bones.
Regards
Stuart
Impossible to know how long the medication will 'hold' the disease for, but there will come a time that he will need more support age and other conditions will be relevant too). Any spread is a serious matter: lungs and spine doubly so. I think that communication may be a big issue here; you need to get through to him that he's going to need help, and so you need to be kept well informed.
If he's living alone, an occupational therapy assessment may identify help that can easily be provided, the GP can arrange that.
Good Luck!

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.
Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.
