I have prostate cancer progression after a radical prostatectomy in July 2015. Currently on hormone therapy (prostap)Â
My oncolgist was initially very reluctant to recommend radiotherapy for the two local recurrences I have (one on the prostate bed and one is in a remnant seminal vesicle). The reasons were treating the seminal vesicle area would result in a lot of bowel being hit. I had another appointment on Monday the result of which is I am going to have a radiotherapy planning scan on Friday 3rd March with a full bladder to see if this pushes some of the bowel away from where radiation will strike. I will meet again on 27/3 to get the results of the scan and a risk assessment on the possible toxicity of radiotherapy,
Has anyone else on this forum had salvage radiotherapy after radical prostatectomy?
How were the side effects? What as the outcome?
Thanks in anticipation.
Ian.
hi, Troc yes have been there click on my blog, saves a lot of typing. A little straight to the point.
9 is scary it is a lot more common than they will at first lead you to believe it's not the fastest of cancers although they do have a bit of a job-killing it having my surgeon said that I would die with it rather than of it.

Latest PSA test done 22/12/2021. PSA is less than 0.10. I’ll take that, it will be 5 years in April since salvage radiotherapy and 7 years in July since prostatectomy. I can again look forward to my first grandchild arriving next month.
Still get the jitters before I get the result.

Good News! Good Luck with the grandchild too. Let us know al about it.
I am well thanks. Had a PSA test before Christmas 16 Dec which hasn't come back to surgery! Phoned hospital but can't get either secretary or nurse but receptionist said it is on the system but she can't give me the answer. She has now left an e mail for someone to get hold of me with result. I really only want to know if it is the same as last year's and why my surgery can't get the result on the system if it is actually there! Very annoying, but sure that they would be in touch if reading had gone up - wouldn't they?
Glad you are well. Personally I wouldn’t rely on the surgery looking too closely!

No i am just contacting the hospital now - although the other tests that were done with it are available to the surgery so its very odd.
Your GP should be able to access your PSA results? I always ask mine ahead of my oncology appointment that way I am not flustered at that appointment and I can prepare any questions on the basis of the results which helps reduce my scanxiety
Yes they should be able to get it so I presume it is a computer glitch. I no longer have any appointments with either oncology or urology being 5 years post radiotherapy with no problems - unless my PSA starts going up so it would be nice to know. Still haven't received a phone call from the urology nurse. The receptionist suggested it was because a lot of them are working form home a few days a week where they can now so don't have access until they can get to the hospital. It's all down to Covid restrictions here. I hope they change soon so that we are able to call people at the hospital knowing that they are there and able to access computer records.
