Diagnosed 3 weeks ago after months of discomfort. Being admitted for debulking on 19th. Terrified. I’m 61 and have never had surgery before. Plan is to recover then start chemo. I’ve had 2 ascital drains in the lead up. The first was a blessed relief with 9 litres siphoned off; the second (yesterday) was very painful and got 4.5 litres. This has allowed me to move but I’m so nauseous and cannot keep food down. I’ve lost so much weight I’m now worried I’m not fit enough for surgery or at least to make a good recovery. I feel I’m shrinking away and don’t feel strong at all. Anyone else had this surgery? How awful was it?
Hello. I was also diagnosed with peritoneal cancer at 61. I had 9.5 litres drained then 3 rounds of chemo followed by debulking surgery then 3 more rounds of chemo. l, like you, was terrified. I recovered much better than expected from the surgery and then carried on with chemo less than 5 weeks later. Everyone has a different experience. I hope this helps a little and that it all goes well. Let us know how you get on. All the best. Xx
That’s so reassuring to hear. I hope the chemo is zapping every scrap of cancer that was left behind. Five weeks from surgery to chemo is amazing!
