Hi all,

I am a volunteer with MacMillan and thought it was about time I started to use this forum Slight smile

I recently (December) lost my dad to metastatic penile cancer. He was diagnosed November 2020 (after some back and forth with the docs) and had a total penectomy in late December 2020. He had radiotherapy, chemo and immunotherapy at various times throughout his illness. He had a suprapubic catheter which with flip flow valve (rather than bag). More recently we had help at home from District Nurses and a hospice (the wonderful St Christopher's Hospice, south London).

If anyone has any questions on the above please ask, obviously I can only tell you what he went through and everyone is different, but it occurred to me that there were times we really could've done with someone to ask questions to - Practical things about caring for someone with his needs at home or small things we did to help him and make him comfortable.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I wanted to thank you for offering to share your dad's experiences with other members. I also wanted to offer my condolences on your recent loss.

When you feel ready, it would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
