My dad passed 6 months after diagnosis, I feel he wasn’t given the appropriate treatment during his journey and urge everyone to fight for themselves at this difficult time
Sorry to hear your dad has passed, when you say you feel he wasn't given the appropriate treatment, what treatment was he given and how do you think it could of been better?
Only asking as have been fighting my battle with penile cancer since November 2022, and still receiving treatment even after being told mine has spread to my lungs and is incurable. I am under Norfolk and Norwich hospital, and they have been superb.
William
Sorry to hear you are still fighting this, I hope that you are able to keep strong and keep going for as long as possible.
I am glad you have experienced a hospital which has been very helpful, unfortunately my dad was not so lucky.
Definitely sounds like your dad didn't get the best of care, also sounds like his was like mine quite aggressive. I personally had 3 operations 1st was partial as your dad had with 1 lymph node from each side taken, left side came back with cancer, in November 2022, second was lymph nodes on left side in February 2023, then I got what I thought was an infection on the end of penis August 2023, same day appointment at hospital, was told it was cancer back, then on 1st September 2023, I had total penectomy, still had no chemo or radio by this stage, on follow up appointment was told the cancer was quite bad around the base of penis and in right side lymph nodes, so was then referred for chemo or radio, another scan done, revealed it had spread to my lungs and incurable, started chemo and immunotherapy(on a 2 year trial) in November, the immunotherapy has helped shrink the masses on my lungs. Just got to wait see what happens at end of trial.
If you need anyone to talk to regards what your dad went through you can always message on here and someone will help you, I do try and come on here regularly to see if anyone has posted or needs advice from someone who has gone through and still going through it.
Hello, sorry to read this. My dad passed away of penile cancer back in December. It is difficult and I can't say it gets 'easier' yet but I am starting to get my head around it it a bit more in the last couple of weeks.
Sending all the best to you, please feel free to reply if you'd like to chat further.
Sorry to hear about your dad.. was his journey similar? I feel such anger and guilt atthe moment over his journey and why he was taken so young, he was only 58 he should have been given ample opportunity to fight this off
That's really young, I'm so sorry. My dad had just turned 71, but was very young at heart and fit and healthy. We were shocked at his diagnosis.
Dad was put on 2 courses of antibiotics for an 'infection' which of course was not one. After both courses had no effect his GP referred him for a check up. I think dad was quite lucky in that sense, but it was still too late for him. He had a total penectomy, chemo, radiotherapy and immunotherapy. I think with it being a rare cancer it is harder to get a diagnosis. I am just assuming that.
It's normal to feel angry and guilty. It's a really horrible cancer :(
I am very sorry to hear the lost ones on this thread.
We do have an active FB group all those touched by penile cancer are welcome to join. One of the aims is to promote awareness, to save lives. Many of us have been misdiagnosed , myself included at 47. I was fortunate, stage4 and survived. But it's not lost on me how close it was.
Do look up the group if you feel able.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
