Hi
my partner has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer 10 days ago!
in March this year he was admitted to hospital and was told he had a tumour on the pancreas stage 1b since then he hasn’t had any treatment or help just given morphine for the pain!!
He’s had his first round of palliative chemo (3 different types) and tbh it’s been horrific, had to have the paramedics out as he can’t take any fluids and no food because he’s violently sick. The pain has be overwhelming for him. We phoned the help line, and he was told to go to guy’s hospital over an hour away!! Which we would have had to go by train… no way would he have managed that… what a joke…
It sounds horrendous what you are going through .. I cannot remember my husband in a lot of pain .. he managed with the bottles of morphine and then a driver a week before the end . I am now facing the same bullet , an operation planned for Monday which is very scary but I hope they can operate and get the nasty tumour out . I hope you find some relief from his pain soon as nobody should have to go through this .
I am so sorry you are going through this. Guys is not the nearest competent A&E to you, but it is probably affiliated to your NHS Trust. So insist on him being bluelighted to the nearest large one that can do pain management. I have had the same kind of response from the McM hotline. I would also ask for an immediate referral/second opinion to/at Royal Marsden Sutton. The Upper GI clinic medical director for PC is Prof.Ian Chau. The clinic is Monday afternoon. I hope that this is helpful?
Hi. I've just been through this journey. My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 after a stroke in Oct. She passed away in April.
Be there for him. He needs you and you need to be strong for him. If it's stage 4 then he has a difficult road ahead. I am so sorry .
Best of luck to you both. Look after him. Tell him how much you love him. Ask important questions now.
We’ve had a hospice nurse out today. She’s told us that the amount of morphine that was prescribed is minimal and not nearly enough to help him with his pain!
so she’s upped that. He’s still being sick and is bent over in pain from the chemo that ended Friday, he’s decided today that he doesn’t want any more chemo!
I understand his decision and respect it. But he asked me today if it would be better for him to go into a hospice, as he’s worried about me caring for him (I have urticaria vasculitis) and no immune system due to my medication. But no matter how painful I am I want him with me, here.
please let me know how the operation has gone. I’m thinking of you xxx
