End of life palliative care and chronic stomach cramps

Hi, my dad 66 yes old was diagnosed in Oct 2021. He is now stopped chemo after bouts of infections and is on end of life care. Symptom management. He is really struggling with severe stomach cramps that last 5 or 6 seconds and have become more frequent. The pain was associated with food and drink but it is present without food or drink. My dad describes it as acid reflux but I'm not sure and morphine or pain medication isn't stopping it. Does anyone have any similar experiences. He is on Amoprazol and a type of gaviscon but that's isn't calming it down. He almost hiccups and then the sharp griping pain kicks in. Thank you in advance

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read about the symptoms that your dad is experiencing, it sounds really unpleasant.

I can't help as I didn't  have this type of cancer but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen.

Does your dad have a cancer nurse specialist, sometimes referred to as a keyworker or Macmillan nurse? If so she/he should be able to help your dad.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
