This blood test is continually rising. It's gone from 800 when the tumour was in situation. To 60 after the Whipples procedure to 102 after 5 sessions of chemotherapy. What does this really mean? It's a fast growing cancer, the chemotherapy isn't working, can radiotherapy be an option after chemotherapy if it hasn't worked?

    I agree Luby.

I have appointment with my oncologist on Tuesday so hoping to get some answers.

  • Hello Luby, As I understand things the CA19-9 is one part of measuring the situation with pc and other indicators have to be taken into account. Have you been told the chemo isn't working or are you thinking that because of the markers? If the chemo you are on isn't working the oncologist may try another.

On the strongest chemotherapy possible. Possibility it's not working. Just wondered if the count has gone from 60 to 102 in 6 weeks...what that really means...

  • Hello Luby

It is possible that the chemo isn't working. Is it Folfirinox. Although it is very strong sometimes people react better to other chemos. As I said the CA19-9 is just one measure and, as I understand, it is difficult to com,e to any conclusion because of a chanhge in the reading.
