Hi my wife was diagnosed with pancreatic ca & liver mets 11the January this year. We both suspected it as she lost 20kg over 2years ago. Her mum passed with same. Also she's had lots of other red flags. Finally she saw a new GP who immediately sent her for CT, Which have all been missed. So needless to say we are now worried. Since being diagnosed she's had a further Thoraxic CT & pancreatic & liver biopsies. No-one has mentioned any treatment as yet & this is what's worrying me as it's almost a month since diagnosis?? Is this normal??
Thanks in advance for any insight
Hi Sooh
I'm sorry to read that your wife has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
My husband was sent to A&E by his GP on 2 September with jaundice and dark urine. He was kept in hospital after a CT scan identified a tumour. The following day he had a stent inserted and a biopsy taken of the tumour. Unfortunately the biopsy was inconclusive so another one had to be done on 8 October. We got the results that it was definitely pancreatic cancer on 29 October and were given a treatment plan that day. We saw the oncologist on 6th November and he started chemotherapy on 1 December.
I don't know if my husband's timeline is normal but I thought I'd tell you so that you can see that from a definite diagnosis to treatment starting was almost 5 weeks. However, he did know what treatment he would be having when he was told he had cancer.
It might be an idea for your wife to contact her CNS (cancer nurse specialist) to find out what's happening. You haven't said how recently your wife had her recent scan and biopsies so it may be that they are waiting for the results of these before they can decide on a treatment plan.
Wishing you both all the best
Anne
Thank you Anne my wife had the 1st CT scan 4th. Jan given diagnosis on 11th Jan. 2nd CT scan 17th Jan. Pancreatic/liver biopsies 27th Jan. Nurse specialist rang early this week to say they were expecting all results MDT meeting yesterday. But didn't call us??
Although it probably doesn't feel like it, it sounds like everything is happening quickly for her.
She could give her CNS a call on Monday and ask if an appointment is being made for her to get her results and treatment plan. From both my husband's and my personal experiences with a cancer diagnosis, the consultant usually likes to see you in person to explain what they've found and what the next steps are.
