I was diagnosed several weeks ago. After the 2nd biopsy it showed some necrosis oof the central part of the pancreas too.
I was due to start chemo last week but bloods showed high bilirubin levels.
So.plan now is mri abdomen tomorrow and once seen possible stent to drain liver and get bilirubin back to normal so a stent in to drain bilirubin before they can resume the plan so 2 month since diagnosed and no chemo yet . I know it has to be done b4 I can start chemo and getting really fed up.
I'd anyone else having such delays??
Hello MrSky
I am one of the Macmillan Community Champions and my own cancer was different to you, however I did go through chemotherapy in 2022. Hopefully by replying to your post, someone who has been on a similar journey to yourself will see your post and be able to offer more specific advice.
I am sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer several weeks ago. I remember how difficult it was when I had my own diagnosis of cancer and remember how keen I was to get on with the treatments.
All my chemotherapy sessions were able to go ahead on time but I did face several issues that could have delayed them. I remember on one occasion I was sat in the chair with the canula in and cooling cap on, waiting for blood results to come back. My main issues were that I had become neutropenic on several occasions and my levels had to come up to a certain level for the chemo to go ahead. It was very touch and go but managed to just scrape into a safe zone. I also had haemoglobin issues that also meant I was at risk of the chemo being delayed.
Even though I understood the levels were important I can understand that you are getting really fed up.
I hope that your MRI went ok and that if needed the stent can be put in to sort out the bilburin levels.
I hope that your chemotherapy can go ahead as soon as possible. I know I felt better once it all got underway. In the meantime please do give the Support Line a call if talking things through would help.
