Hi everyone inm just in the process if waiting to have chemo. I was wondering if there was any advice on what to eat and drink going through the process. How have people managed to get through it. I realise it's different for everyone as I have had chemo before but that was 13 years ago, that was for breast cancer. This time I believe is more intense and more often . Any advice would be grateful, and good luck anyone fighting this horrific desease. Keep well and keep strong.

  • Hi

Like you, I've had chemo for breast cancer and remember being given a list of foods I should avoid whilst having it. I would imagine that it would be similar advice for chemo for pancreatic cancer but your CNS should be able to give you specific advice.

Having replied to you, your post will now have been 'bumped' back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen by the members of the group. Hopefully, someone will be along soon to share their experiences of what foods they ate while on chemo.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • I think the advice might be more specific re this cancer depending on what treatments may be being taken concurrently, eg PERT etc.

Plus pancreatic cancer affects digestion in different ways to breast cancer which in turn affects diet.

So I'm not going to give any specific suggestions as I think it should come from a nurse as latchbrook has suggested. (I think sometimes even there may be special prescriptions.  Also, advice may vary depending on the chemo combo.)

Have your team given you any specific advice yet? Do you have a dietician assigned to you – if not, do you need one?

Pancreatic cancer can be a bit tricky diet-wise.

If you can't get hold of CNS then a specialist nurse helpline may be able to offer pointers and help you frame questions for your team/CNS as they would understand more about specific meds.  PancreaticCancerUK has a specialist nurse helpline.

In order for people to usefully comment on their pancreatic cancer chemo experiences they would need to know that their pancreatic cancer and treatments were similar to yours, I feel. So latchbrooks's advice about updating profile is helpful too.

Hope all goes well for you. Good luck! X
