Good morning Ladies, my first post here. Normally I would be posting in different types of groups but here we are!!
I am awaiting my CA125 result which is a telephone appointment on the 16th July. Because it is a telephone appointment my mind was put at rest because I thought they won’t give serious news over the phone but also it said ‘Please feel free to have a relative or friend with you for this appointment’ so then I hit the panic button again. Do all of the telephone correspondence letters say this? Did yours?
Hey Rosie, when I was tested for CA125, I had a phonecall from my surgery 2 hours after the blood tests to say I need to come in for an appointment that same afternoon. Which of course made me worry and indeed the result was through the roof. I'd like to think in your case perhaps it's elevated but not to the degree to cause major panic- but of course I don't know for sure. It's important to know this is only a marker and won't give you a firm diagnosis- but I appreciate the wait is hard. The marker can suggest endometriosis, cysts and other things (or even mean absolutely nothing as it can be raised during menstrual cycle) so perhaps that's why they advise you to have a friend with you for support. Keeping everything crossed for you and hopefully this is just routine appointment, all the best xx
Having someone with you is sensible when there is a 'something next' and you will have questions about any info given, but if you're waiting 2 weeks or more for it it's not urgent-urgent. There is an element of postcode lottery, but generally if it's urgent you will be called or asked to come in within a week. I had "The doctor wants to discuss your results... can you come in tomorrow afternoon?" Of course we all knew what that meant!
An elevated CA125 can mean many things, it's a fairly blunt tool. A CA125 within normal range doesn't always mean it's all OK either (annoyingly!).
Fingers crossed the next 2 weeks will pass quickly and you'll have some answers and a plan soon.
I'm sure you have your own tricks for managing the wait and anxiety, but the internet has lots of mindfulness guides, yoga, or breathing techniques. I found gardening, woodland walks, knitting and audiobooks kept me just calm/distracted enough, but I have been known to visit the bottle bank and swear ferociously as each bottle smashes into tiny bits...
