So I saw the GP he did some pressing around on my abdomen and with my mum previously having primary peritoneal cancer stage 4 then ovarian and debulking he is putting me on the 2 week pathway with a blood test Monday.

Dad also died of prostate cancer that went to his bones and brain.

He did mention was I through the menopause yet which I'm sure I would be as I haven't bled in yrs and even had my mirena removed over a yr ago.

  • Hi

I'm not a member of this forum but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

Hope the blood test goes well today and you don't have too long to wait to see a specialist.

  • Hi sorry you are going through this experience. I see you have a blood test today, hopefully the results will be helpful and fingers crossed reassuring. I’m also sorry to read about your parents history of cancer. My parents both passed away from cancer , pancreatic and prostrate . When I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer I was also tested for faulty genes which could cause cancer. I am BRCA 2 positive. Might be worth asking your GP if you could be referred for genetic testing. Hope you get on ok today. Take care xx

  • Thank you Sem.24.

Sorry to hear you've had cancer too.My mum was tested for the Braca genes and was told she doesn't have it.

They tested her as she responded twice to chemo and had the debulking operation and is still here 17 yrs later from a stage 4 diagnosis.

Bloods and fit test done now I wait.

Do you mind me asking what symptoms made you go to the doctor's.

I've had bleeding bloating and constipation.Xx

  • The waiting for test results is so hard , hopefully you won’t have to wait too long. To be honest I didn’t have symptoms of OC . I had a CT of my chest due to having a cough and a mass was seen at the top of my abdomen, it was quite by chance that it was picked up. Your mum has done amazing 17 years . Sounds like no genetic brca changes on your mums side , do you know anything about your dad. It was explained to me that my faulty gene could have been inherited from either of my parents as there is a link to prostrate cancer and OC. I hope you’re not in too much discomfort . Take care , and be kind to yourself. Xx

  • The scan showed an ovarian cyst.

    I was so relieved.

As I'm post menopausal they will scan every 4 months to see if it disappears or grows.

The GP wanted me to make a routine call for results which is 3 weeks away so I guess my ca125 was good.

Kind of want the cyst gone tbh.

  • Hi , I am so pleased for you, what a relief. I can understand that you want the cyst to be gone. I think quite a lot can be known about the content of cysts from scans. You could always request a copy of the scan report for more reassurance. It’s good that you are being monitored too , and will be rescanned in 4 months. Best wishes, go celebrate . Xx

  • Hiya

    Glad to hear your news.

Just to let you know my case as you may benefit in the future.  I was scanned in 2019 and 2020 and it was an ovarian cyst.  However in 2023 it became cancerous and spread.  Had I known I would have pushed to have more scans even say once a year but I recognise the costs to scan cysts when 90% disappear on their own is sadly too high.  Hopefully you are in the 90% that disappear.

    Take care

  • So sorry to hear that Selernie.

Do you mind me asking if you were post menopausal?

I've been told I will get checked every 4 months for a yr and if I were younger this wouldn't happen as the cyst would be expected to go.

I read the Nice guidelines  and this watchful waiting is the norm but with mum having had stage 4 herself I would like to prevent anything for myself.

I have to say mum was stage 4 august 2007 and despite a recurrence and surgery and chemo she is still alive.

I hope this is hope for anyone struggling.

    Take care

  • Thank you for the advice about a copy of the scan Sem.24.

Thanks for your good wishes too.Xx

  • Hi there
