After having a hysterectomy for an ovarian cyst, the surgery discovered stage 3 low grade serous ovarian cancer. Further surgery removed visible cancer and I have just begun chemotherapy prior to having hormone blocking treatment. I am very grateful that the hysterectomy meant my cancer was discovered as I had no symptoms and the CT scan and ultrasound scans had not picked it up.
Anyone else with this quite rare form of ovarian cancer on here?
Hi Blinker and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I've done a search in this forum looking for posts which mention serous ovarian cancer and found these for you to look through.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Ltd Lisa and welcome to the group,
The original poster has not been back on the forum for over a year so you may not receive a reply here.
I’d suggest you might like to join the group by clicking on the “join group” banner at the bottom of the page and make a new post to introduce yourself.
You won’t be able to make a new post without joining the group, but if you do join you’ll be able to connect with other ladies who may have had a similar diagnosis.

Hi Ldt, I was diagnosed with low grade serous last month. When were u diagnosed? My consultant wants to do debulking as first line no mention of chemo at this time. Have u been given a stage? Had a diagnostic laparoscopy when extra biopsies were taken on 2/7 and next appointment 28/7. What symptoms did you have how was yours found? Mine was found when my gallbladder was removed. Best wishes
Hi Brookie, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May when I went for a laparoscopy. I had all the symptoms & kept going to my Drs for them to tell me it was menopausal .
I then went in 4 weeks later for Hysterectomy it had spread to my bowel & spleen. I had several hours of surgery by the best team. They said they’ve managed to remove all the visible cancer. I woke up with a stoma. Not reversible, but it’s saved my life. I’ve got LG 3b serous & now trying to find as much information as I can.
All the very best Lisa
Hi, 10 years ago I had the most minute spotting and no other symptoms but I had a hysterectomy as I had a uterine tumour and one on my ovary. They were both stage 1 and I didn’t have any further treatment apart from check ups for 5 years. I have got no symptoms now and it was only when my gallbladder went to pathology that OC was found. I have multiple modular implants on omentum and peritoneum surface deposits on liver and other places I have never heard of before. It is also on bowel and I am expecting bowel resection with possible temporary/permanent stoma. Could I ask where u had your surgery and how difficult it is to adjust to a stoma. How long were u in hospital for? Like u I want to find out as much about low grade serous as I can but I have been told it is one of the rarest kinds. Best Wishes
Good Morning Brooke,
I had my surgery in Truro Cornwall.
I didn’t know that I would be having a stoma so you can imagine how upset I was when I woke to find out. But I look at it that it’s saved my life. It’s ok I just get on with it. I was in hospital 5 days I wanted to get home. I had spleen / bowel as well as other things removed.
Now for the next stage of treatment I think I’m going for the Hormone Therapy first.
All the best Lisa x
Hi Ldt
I’m not sure if you’re aware, but we also have a stoma support group in the community you might like to join and the link is here
I’ve got 2 stomas (colostomy and urostomy) due to my surgery, but I knew in advance they were in my plan, so it wasn’t a shock like it was for you.
If you ever have any stoma questions or just want advice, the group is great for that.

Hi Ldt I know I may feel differently if I have to have a stoma but at the moment I feel like u, if it saves my life. I am glad to be warned in advance that it is a possibility also consultant said I could be in hospital for 14 days so rather hoping he’s just stating the longest time and hopefully it will be less. How long did your surgery last and how soon were u out of bed after? Sorry if you think I am being too personal but u don’t seem to see much info on ladies with low grade serous. Best Wishes
