Hi,I was diagnosed 3 months ago had 2 surgeries, first was key hole to remove the ovaries and a cyst. Turns out, cyst was cancerous, so then had full hysterectomy and I just started my first chemotherapy cycle last week. Found the actual chemotherapy ok, but have had very bad headache, earache since, taking painkillers, but really struggling. Sleep is also not happening, feel completely drained but can't sleep!!
Anyone have anything similar??
Hello Helen94a
I am sorry to hear of your ovarian cancer.
My cancer was endometrial but also had the hysterectomy and chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy can have different effects on different people but it can make you feel pretty grotty. I found the first week of the cycle the worst and then things did tend to improve. I found that a lot of the side effects could be managed by rest and medication.
You should have a 24 hour phone number for your hospital. I would suggest you give them a call this morning and tell them about the bad headache and ear ache. This is something that they need to know about and they will be able to offer support.
I found sleep was affected by the steroids and with the following cycle I was given a tapering dose so it may be worth asking when you have your review.
But do give them a call about the bad headache as it needs checking.

Hi Jane 2511
Thanks for your message. Sorry to hear about your endometrial cancer. I did contact my 24 hour number at the weekend, and they advised some more pain relief. I'm feeling better today and the pain has eased considerably. I will definitely mention the tapering of the steroids when I have my next appointment and hopefully my sleep will improve.
I had my chemotherapy last Wednesday so I'm hopeful that things will start to improve a bit as I'm a week over it now.
Have you finished all your treatment? If so, how were you after the 6 cycles of chemotherapy?
Did they put you on other medication or are you monitored closely?
I hope you're doing well and I appreciate your advice
All the best
The chemo took some time to get over but I did have it followed by 5 weeks of pelvic radiotherapy. Looking back I started to feel more like myself around 4-6 months after it ended. I did have some issues with blood levels though.
I have been left with peripheral neuropathy and this is ongoing and have had amitriptyline prescribed for it.
I was seen by my consultant 1 month after the end of treatment and then put on a 12 week check up schedule for 2 years. For the 3 years after that I am on patient led follow up.
If your chemo was a week ago, and your experience similar to mine you should start to feel a lot better very soon. I found the steroids did affect me quite a lot.
I found by the second week getting out and about in the fresh air would help- even if it is just sitting out in the garden with a book. And to catch up with family and friends for short visit.
With the headache and other symptoms I found they did tend to follow a pattern in each cycle. The other thing I thought of is are you drinking enough to keep hydrated? I found my mouth was sore and I also had an upset tummy and that in itself could make me headachy.
