Hello, I was diagnosed less than a month ago. Since then I've had CT scan biopsy I've been on morphine for pain which I've been taken with paracetamol. There have been a few days where I've not needed to take painkillers.
I'm having a very difficult time drinking mainly because whatever drink has no flavor to it once I've swallowed it.
With regards to food I don't seem to be able to tolerate anything in as much as nothing taste like it did before.
I've lost quite a bit of weight which appears to be mainly on my hip areas making it difficult to get comfortable if I try to sleep as it's quite painful.
I've got myself sort of like an air mattress which alternates are going into the different pockets but I didn't find this helpful. I also have a painful back and I'm assuming this is because of the same situation.
What I wondered was if anyone had a go-to food item or drink that they found helpful, at the moment McDonald's milkshake seems the only thing that is at least somewhat helpful.
Also wonder if anybody could suggest something that really helps with regards to positioning and being able to get to sleep?
Thank you.
Hi Calam
You pain sounds similar to how mine was and I had that painkiller combination. I’m on chemo now which has helped me but everyone is different.
Your GP may be able to prescribe nutrient drinks. There are a couple of different types. My mum and my friend have had them for weight loss due to illness.
With regards to sleeping, pillows and cushions are your friend . At times it’s felt like there’s 3 people in our bed: me, my husband and my cushion/pillow mountain. In the past I’ve also slept on top of another duvet doubled over.
Hi. The secret is to eat small quantities of food at regular intervals. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t taste as good as it used to, just get the calories that your body needs into you. The same applies to liquids. If coffee or tea have lost their appeal just drink water.
I experience stiffness in my hips and my recently pregnant daughter suggested a pillow between the knees, it may be worth trying that. Also take Ibuprofen before going to bed to increase the chances of at least a few hours sleep.
Good luck!
