Caelyx and Carboplatin.

Hi all

After being treated for Ovarian Cancer etc with debunking and total hysterectomy in 2018, i was found to have two small tumours on lymph nodes in my back.  I was prescribed six cycles of Caelyx and Carboplatin and am now halfway through.  I have a CT scan booked for 1st July to check how things are going.

Luckily so far I have not lost any hair which is a bonus as last time I lost all of it.

The side effects after each cycle are seeming to get worse.  The main problems are with light headedness and feeling a bit shakey.  The weather isn't helping as I am feeling the heat more than usual too.  I am experiencing very low blood sugar levels too.  I was left with peripheral neuropathy in both feet after my previous treatment and I am finding I am being more clumsy now.  Constantly dropping things.

I was told that surgery was unlikely to be an option as the problem areas are too close to my spinal cord.

Is anybody else experiencing similar and have they any advice to offer?

I am generally a very positive person but I am finding this particularly challenging.

Thank you for reading.

  • Hi. While I haven’t experienced these drugs and symptoms I wanted you to receive some kind of reply. It must be so hard to experience this return of tumours after previous surgery. I recognise that even the strongest, positive person (I am similar) at times find their resilience bucket empty. This happened to me in January after coming to an end of surgery and chemo, before starting 18 months of immuno therapy treatment.
I can only suggest allowing yourself to recognise that your resilience bucket is empty and that (just) for a while you need to be carried by friends and family who care for you. It is alright to be carried! What also helped me was making time for non cancer activities. I had lunch with good friends, saw my daughter and granddaughter, exercised and enjoyed my sewing projects. They all helped. I wish you well. Xx
