Hi im new here and feeling a bit overwhelmed.
to cut a long story short- ive been having what i thought was recurring UTI since April. Each time i get the usual need to pee urgent every hour or less, burning at the end of peeing, lower back ache and low pelvic pain, feel bloated and changes in bowel habits. On each visit to GP urine has shown leukocytes, but then no culture growth. Fast forward to today 4th episode since april i saw a new lady doctor and i dont think ive spent as much time with a gp in yrs! Urine dip showed leukocytes again plus protein. She went over all the history of the past few months and said shes not convinced its urinary related. She wantts to rule out maybe ovarian cancer though shes not worried at present and has ordered CA125 , full bloods and other tests. Im already waiting for ultrasound from previous visit though this was ordered for kidney bladder and uranary tract so probably wont include ovaries. Im a bit scared as i know something is not right

Hi Louise
Welcome to the Ovarian group.
I am sorry to hear that you have been having some worrying symptoms and recurring UTI's.
It sounds like your doctor is being very thorough and that is a good thing. Something is causing these UTI and other symptoms and you need to find out what is causing them. The symptoms you mention can be caused by many different things but they always try and rule out the potentially most serious reasons first.
Normal routine testing would involve a trans vaginal ultrasound and a external tummy ultrasound to get a clearer picture of the uterus and ovaries. I am not sure how much would be seen on the ultrasound you had. But if you do need another they can normally be done fairly quickly and although a bit uncomfortable- its not painful.
My TVS was for suspected endometrial scan and they can quickly see if there is something that needs further investigation so it is a good test to be done initially.
The CA125 is used as a marker and a level of 35 and above would indicate the need for further investigation. On its own it does not diagnose or exclude cancer hence the other testing. Full bloods are routine.
I think that we do know ourselves when something does not feel right with our bodies and although it can be stressful to go through the testing process, once you know what is causing these symptoms, then they can work out how to treat them.
It is natural to feel overwhelmed and things can feel like they are moving quickly, Do give the Support Line a call if talking to one of the nurses would help. They are lovely on there and are there from 8am-8pm daily.
I hope the UTI symptoms settle down- they can be pretty miserable.
I hope that the testing can be arranged quickly and that you will have some reassurance soon. In the meantime we are here if you need us.
Jane
