Hi
I started struggling to breath back in august, got told a couple of months ago I have stage 4a ovarian cancer (almost exactly 10 yrs to the day I had surgery to remove thyroid due to cancer) I have had no symptoms of the ovarian cancer just fluid on my lung
I was due to have an op but postponed it due to fluid on my lung have now just started hormone therapy while they wait 3 months to see if I’m fit enough for the op
I’m in shock I’m trying to put a brave face on and be strong but I’m an emotional wreck I just don’t know what to do, only me and the hubby know that we have been told I’m not curable and every advert I see is a cancer ad with someone saying it’s gone or ringing a bell and I won’t ever get to do that
I sometimes feel like the drs do t know what to do with me due to my age, I lower the average age in the waiting rooms by a good 15-20yrs
I’m just trying to not mess up Christmas for everyone
Hi Tricki
Being told that your cancer is treatable but incurable must be very difficult so I'm not surprised to read that you feel as you do. You might find this information from Macmillan on getting help with your emotions helpful.
Macmillan also provide, through Bupa, six free counselling sessions for people struggling emotionally because they are living with cancer. If this is something that you'd like to take a look at, clicking here will take you to more information.
I'm not a member of this group but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
You might also like to think about joining the living with incurable cancer forum. It's a very active group and I'm sure you'll find the other members very welcoming and happy to chat with you about anything and everything.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I hope you have a relaxing Christmas and New Year.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
