Hello all,
I am new to the community. I had a partial hysterectomy in 2018 following years struggling with ovarian cysts, endometriosis, adhesions. I had breast cancer which was successfully removed via wide area excision in 2019.
In the last 18 months i’ve had repeated UTI’s and urinary symptoms (urgency/ frequency). I attended A&E with pain in my abdomen and back and was examined. Further investigation was requested via GP. I recently had a Ca-125 test which was not above the level for immediate concern. TVAS and Ultrasound have been requested, but no apt yet. I am experiencing swelling in my abdomen, sharp constant internal discomfort, frequent urination, some constipation, nausea, not wanting to eat and tiredness / insomnia.
With holiday’s approach I am unsure whether to just wait (as my GP has acted quickly this week to request tests) for next steps or try and seek help from A&E. I know my symptoms are aligned with Ovarian Cancer and am scarred. First GP apt I can get is in 11 days.
Apologies for long message, but any advise is welcome.
Hello Saki
Welcome to the Online Community.
I am sorry to hear of your current symptoms and worries of ovarian cancer.
It is good that your GP has requested the scans and I would hope that you would hear something very soon if it has been done on the 2WW pathway. With me they phoned me with an appointment. There would be no harm in calling your GP tomorrow am and asking whereabouts in the system you now are and to explain if your symptoms are worsening.
With your GP appointment 11 days away- I wonder if it is worth going to one of the NHS walk in centres/urgent care centres near you? If you put your post code in the link below it will tell you the nearest one to you. I have used them myself a couple of times and there was a lot less waiting than A+E. You can also phone them in advance to ask about coming in. I have had xrays and scans (for other conditions) and they were done quickly. I know that it is difficult to get a doctor's appointment at the moment but I wonder if they gave you that one in the hope that your ultrasound scan would have been done by then. so they would have more info on what is going on?
Find Urgent Care services - NHS (www.nhs.uk)
If however you feel really unwell, have pain or feel your symptoms are getting worse etc then of course do call NHS111 for advice about going to A+E.
If you feel like talking things through with one of the nurses on the Support Line, then please give them a call on the number below. Although the symptoms you describe may be connected with ovarian cancer, there could be other reasons causing your symptoms, especially with the CA125 results. They would be able to talk through things with you.
Hope this helps and that you get answers soon. If there is anything else you need in the meantime, please do ask.
Jane
Just home. Lovely Dr. Thorough examination, he could see I was in pain and gave me some stronger pain medication. He managed to get me a TVAS apt on Wednesday which is great. Reassuring to ‘be in the system’ with Gynae before the festive break. Thank you for your care.
That's great news. I hope Wednesday goes ok.
I was phoned by the hospital the morning after the scan so fingers crossed they can give you answers very soon. The nurse just said that something had been seen and they weren't sure what it was so I was asked to come in on the following morning for a biopsy.
Let us know how you get on and if you need anything else, then please do ask.
Jane
