Hello. Just been diagnosed at 52yrs old. Big shock. Had rapid symptoms with ascites. Had fluid drainage x2 and started Chemo. Ascites coming back, worried will need another drainage. All very scary. Any advice? Thanks
Hi RoseH26
Welcome to the group, but I am sorry you find yourself here. My name is Chelle, and I am an online community champ. Although my cancer is different to yours, I do have some experience with ovarian cancer as my mum and then step mum both had the disease.
Ascites is very uncomfortable, and unfortunately can come back even when on chemo, especially early on in the treatment. The best thing is to let your team know as soon as you realise this is happening, you do not want to wait until this gets too uncomfortable. I‘m sorry, I know it’s not nice for you, but you know how much better you feel once the drain has taken place.
I would give your clinical nurse specialist a call today, just to let her know how you are feeling, and see what she suggests. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Thank you so much for your reply. Spoke to my clinical nurse, unfortunately drainage not happening before Tuesday. Have to go to A&E if very uncomfortable. I'm scared.
Hi Rose,
I just wanted to say hello. Although I can't answer your question I am in a similar situation although not started chemo yet. I'm 53 and a single mum of a 13 year old. I went in via A&E 2 weeks ago for my 1st drain and biopsy and was told highly likely its ovarian cancer. Had my MDT yesterday and have a meeting on weds for results and plan. My ascites has built up again but its so difficult trying to arrange childcare. It is really stressful and scary isn't it. I hope you can manage until tues or if not maybe go to A&E. Have ypu for some painkillers available. Hope it all goes ok for you. Sending hugs.
Hi Kezzamax.
Sorry to hear that you are in the same situation. It is very difficult to deal with everything especially when you have children to look after. I have 2 young children 12 and 8. My partner is helping a lot and my 80yrs old mum has come to help us. I don't know how I would do without them. I hope you can find some childcare help with some charity?
I went to A&E yesterday and they decided not to do another drainage yet and to wait Tuesday. I've tried to manage the pain with Tramadol painkillers.
I hope your ascites is not too painful. Lots of hugs.
Hello everyone. I have 4 fluid drainage so far for Ascetis. The last one was last week before my 2nd chemo 3 days ago. The Ascetis seems stable but the abdominal pain is worse. I have no other side effects and my clinical nurse thinks it is due to chemo. As any one had similar experience? I don't know how long it will last and I'm worried. Thank you.
