Hi there,
I have just been diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer and been told that my chemotherapy Comb is designed to prolong life not to cure me.
If my heart scan comes back clear, I will begin my first round of chemo next Monday.
I will be receiving a combination of Carboplatin and Liposomal Doxorubicin once every 4 weeks for the next 6 months. There is no evidence of disease in any of my organs.
My question is has anyone else had this chemo combination and what can I expect?
Thank you!
Hi Bobster and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I didn't have that combination of chemo, when I was having chemo for a different type of cancer, so I don't have any experiences to share with you. However, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be easier for the other group members to see.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hello Bobster - I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It is such a difficult time. I did not have that combination of chemo - I had just the carboplatin. I seemed to get into a pattern of feeling ill for three days post chemo - then gradually recovering. I did what I was told and took the additional meds that I was given (steroids and anti sickness) and they really helped. I also listened to my body and rested as and when I needed to. I dont' know your situation at home - but I looked after myself and I just used to take myself off for a nap and put the radio on. I got better after each cycle. One of the many things I have learnt since I have been on this journey - is that everyone responds differently to the same chemo. Some have little in the way of side effects and some seem to experience quite a few. You will have the chemo support line available 24 hours and that is really helpful - you can just give them a ring and talk through any side effects you're worried about - whether it is 3am or 3pm - someone will be there. I hope all goes well with your heart scan. Love and hugs are sent your way x
