Hello everyone.
I hope everyone is doing okay.
I got told on Wednesday that I have ovarian cancer which has spread to the bowel. This has come as a complete shock and unexpected.
I have an appointment on Thursday next week with my gyno surgeon. I was told I need surgery asap. Can I just ask if anyone has been told that and how long they waited for the op?
sorry I just feel completely lost at the moment
Hi Laura,
how are you doing? Hope the surgery all went well.
Thank you for replying. Was you told the same that surgery was urgent and needed doing asap? I meet my surgeon on Thursday and praying she tells me the date of surgery in this meeting.
In your meeting with the surgeon did he/she tell you the date of your surgery? Sorry for all the questions. Just really anxious as all I have been told is I need a full hysterectomy asap and I’m waiting on what will happen with the bowel and what they want to do with that. Xxx
Hi Katie,
So sorry to hear your news it’s completely normal to feel the way you do. I wish you all the best with your surgery and treatment!
They found that my mass was cancerous after my surgery and not before so I was waiting a few weeks for my operation so I’m sorry I can’t be much help with your query.
If you ever need anyone to talk to I’m always here to chat, you’re not alone

Hi Katie
I’m doing ok thanks, pain much better and able to do a bit more now.
I hope it all goes as well as it can on Thursday and you get the date for your surgery asap.
My surgeon and cancer nurse were able to tell me the date of the surgery in the meeting, I hope the same happens for you.
Ask me as many questions as you like but I’m also very new to this! I also felt and still feel very anxious, but I guess this is very normal.
I felt very well looked after with my surgery and I am sure you will too.
Take good care of yourself
Laura
Wishing you all the best, I hope it goes as well as it can. Everything seems to spiral very quickly after you hear the words 'you have cancer' and you feel like your feet aren't touching the ground. With little time to get your head round things between appointments and then waiting for results, some days convincing yourself it will be ok then other days thinking the worst. Now you're on the right path though so it shouldn't take long before they can give you a date or treatment plan. Fingers crossed.
Hopefully you won’t have to wait long for your op. The NHS prioritises cancer patients, so although the media quote waiting list statistics they are for planned routine ops for eg knee and hip replacements not for cancer ops. I only had to wait ten days between meeting my surgeon and him doing the op to remove my ovaries and womb.
All the best.
