New to forum- my mum has OC and appendix cancer.

Hi all, this is the first time I have visited this particular forum. My mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year (feb 2021) stage 3c, had 3 rounds of chemo, major debulk, another 3 rounds and we also got the news following the debulk that pathology had found she also had a rare appendix cancer (goblet cell) going on at the same time.. still can’t believe it.

She has now been in targeted therapy for a year (as she is HRD gene positive), had a clear pelvic scan only 3 weeks ago, but around 2 weeks ago started with wind like pains at night time, and she was randomly sick one evening. We contacted The Christie who got her in, the CT showed some recurrence on the bowel. She is being called in to St Mary’s tomorrow to see the consultant who did her debulk. I took it initially as promising news and she was told by a nurse that it’d likely be surgery again but they aren’t sure how to proceed yet… then we’ve also been briefly told it needs further investigation.. Certainly not a straight forward case…

I’m absolutely petrified about Friday. McMillan suggested I go to the appointment too to take all the info in and to support my dad (as he struggles) but I think I’ve taken that in my head as ‘go as there’s going to be tough news’.

I also wonder if they’ll suggest more radical surgery (with HIPEC this time perhaps?) which I honestly don’t know if she’d go through with. I know a few people on here have had this surgery and are doing well now? She has to take the chance if it’s available… surely..

Anyway sorry for the waffling post, just had to write something somewhere. Laura xxx

  • Hi

I'm really sorry to read about your mum's possible recurrence and I hope you all got some good news at the appointment yesterday.

I'm not from this group but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so responding to you will 'bump' the post back to the top of the page where it'll hopefully be seen by others who can share their experiences with you.

While you're waiting for results it would be great if you could pop something about about your mum's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
