Hi All!
I’ve been sitting back reading and watching all your blogs over the last two months. But now I’ve plucked up the courage to reach out. Im 26 and my mum is 46.
She has just had a full hysterectomy due to a 14lb tumour! It turned out to be Stage 1c Mucinous Ovarian Cancer. The surgeon is happy all has been removed & no cancer has spread (yay!!)
He has however booked her in to see a Dr next week regarding chemotherapy if she wants it. The appointment was pretty rushed & we came away wondering why would she be having chemo if all of the cancer has been taken away? I have also read online that this rare form of cancer does not even really need chemo! Just curious if anyone has a similar experience so we could gain some more knowledge before my Mum makes her chemo decision!
Thanks so much
Hi. I have also had a hysterectomy to remove a rugby ball sized cyst from my ovary which turned out to be MOC. They told me that everything visible had gone, but the fluid left in my abdomen was wear the MOC was so had to undergo chemo to make sure all of the mucinous cells were destroyed. I've also read that it doesn't work on this type of cancer, then other things saying it does. I guess you have options, the best thing to do is listen and ask questions. It is a very scary time for both your mum and the rest of your family.
Sorry I can't be anymore help
