I feel a bit ashamed being here… I am ok, all the follow up checks are good but the fear that it can come back is making my life hard. How guys you cope with this?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Firstly, please don't feel ashamed to be here. It's great that you're physically okay and all your check ups have been good. However, no matter what type of cancer we've had we all know what it's like to worry about the cancer returning. Unfortunately, there's no magic answer to how to cope with this, you just have to work out what works for you. I find that doing things I enjoy takes my mind away from the 'what ifs' and lots of people find mindfulness helpful.

You might also like to join and post in the life after cancer group which is for cancer survivors and people who have finished treatment. It is a space to discuss things like the physical and emotional after effects of cancer, returning to work, or trying to move on with your life. If this is something that you'd like to do clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can join and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Morning I have been told after chemo and surgery all the cancer they could see has been removed. However I'm going to continue with avastin 3 weekly for the next 12 months. I know how you feel, will it work, will it stop a return. My way of coping is carry on booking short breaks, socialising as much as possible. It's hard I did holiday abroad but now can't afford the insurance. Keep looking forward baby steps.

    That's my way.

    Thinking of you. Suep
