I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer on 22nd December 2021. I had an op on 2nd December to remove an 8cm mass and they took ovaries put at same time plus my epithelial lining. The fallopian tubes were high grade carcinoma and the mass sarcoma. I started chemo on 6th Jan this year. All went well. Had side effects but expected that. But 2nd chemo I had an annaphylactic shock type reaction to one of the drugs I had the first time. Ended up in A&E. Got sorted and had to reschedule all my blood tests and appointments. Went back for 2nd chemo to try another drug. But after a few mins had reaction to that too. Not as bad but still had to stop after a few minutes. Now got to try something else. I know one size doesn't fit all but I'm worrying that during all this delay, and it's not hospitals fault, my cancer could be spreading. They think it's all contained in pelvis, its not gone to my chest, but cos my cancer is a very aggressive one I'm worried. Anyone else had problems with their cancer drugs.
Hi Kezza,
Sorry to hear about your problems with your first two chemos
I haven’t experienced anything like that myself but, due to having a type of cancer that seems to be able to resist most chemos, I am now on my third chemo regime in 13 months (first Carboplatin/Paclitaxel, then Abraxane, and now Cisplatin/Etoposide). And I can certainly empathise with your concerns about what the cancer might be doing inside in the gaps between treatments. Unfortunately, we never really know until the next scan comes along.
On a positive note though, there are many many different treatment regimes available for OC - so try to keep faith with your medical team and trust them to find the one that’s right for you.
Keeping fingers crossed it’ll be 3rd time lucky for you
love Bx
Thanks B. I have every faith in my oncology team. They have been excellent so far. Its not their fault my body keeps rejecting their offerings. I'll be taking to my oncologist on Wednesday cos they have a meeting on tuesday at the hospital so he will tell me the next plan.
I'm sure I'm.not the only one this has happened to. But I just wanted to get on with it and get rhe chemo done. Yes let's hope 3rd time lucky.
hi kezza, just thought i would jump in to conversation, i had my op on dec 2nd , high grade same as you, nothing in lymp nodes thank goodness, i also have had a reaction to 2nd round of chemo, luckily only mild as i felt funny straight away. managed to get the 1st one in no problems, side effects were horrible but managable. only 1/2 of second one,no side effects from it at all, so going to ask oncologist if i can go weekly for treatment, apparently its quite common for people to react on the 2nd round, they will try everything and anything that gets you the best treatment outcome. stay positive
