We have just had the diagnosis of OC for my mum who is 83. She had the classic symptoms - we now know - for the past 18 - months to 2 years, steadily getting worse. The doctors at the GP surgery just kept fobbing us off, putting it down to a bladder problem (she has urinary retention) with phone call appointments and prescriptions for antibiotics - never once did they look outside the bladder as an issue. It took me and my sister to insist on a CA125 test being done after googling her symptoms. Even with a raised CA125 it took weeks for scan appointments to be arranged, which eventually she got when she was rushed into hospital. My mum is still in hospital, we are waiting for a drain to be put in to remove fluid and then she can go to a nursing home. However, we have been fighting for this to happen all week to be told this morning that it's the weekend, nothing is going to happen. This is incredibly frustrating and upsetting as the doctor has told us that the drain should make a considerable difference to how she is feeling. In the meantime, we continue to push to get this done asap. My advice to anyone in this situation is to stay strong, question everything and push if you need to to get answers.
I’m sorry to hear you mum is suffering and hear your frustration. I so wish that the nhs web page on Ovarian cancer also listed burning after weeing and no infection as a possible symptom. I was at the docs twice for this last year and twice had no infection. The second time, nobody rang me to say no infection, I rang and asked. The Vagifem I was prescribed took the edge off it. I now find myself with a large mass awaiting surgery and the wait is quite difficult. I think I have processed all the ‘who and what to blame’ now through some counselling and journaling. I wish you all the best.
i too have burning wee, no infecttion, oncologist said drink cranberry juice as well as alot of water etc, and it has worked for me ...the cranberry juice is my new thing, as every little helps
