Hi iam new to the group I start my first chemotherapy session on 9/10 .how long is it normally between each session .And with the first session how will I feel afterwards x

  • Hi Flowerx,

Chemo sessions for OC tend to be either weekly or 3-weekly, and your consultant or nurse should be able to tell you which regime they are putting you on.

My sessions have been weekly, and I generally find that on chemo day an the day after I feel fine, just a bit tired. Day 2 and 3 are generally the ones when I suffer a bit with nausea, but the anti-sickness meds work wonders, and I’ve fortunately never actually been sick.

Some symptoms tend to worsen as the chemo builds up in your system over time - Ive had issues with falling red and white blood cell counts, and mouth soreness. But if you let your medical team know about every side effect you experience, there’s usually a solution they can offer.

All the best for October 9th,

    love Bx

  • Thank you so much for your reply  .you have been really helpful. To be able to discuss with someone  else that is actually going through OC .

Due to covid I was unable to take anyone in with me and  to be honest it's all just been too much to take in.and I feel that I have to apologise each time I ring the medical team a question.

      Thankyou B positive

  • Hello , I too started chemo on the 15/09 , I'm having 6 cycles , 3 weeks apart . My side effects weren't as bad as I feared . I was on steroids for the first 3 days, these make you quite hyper so I was told to take them as early in the day as possible so they don't effect your sleep.

I've had a metallic taste in my mouth from about day 3 , it hadn't gone away.

My worst side effects were a sore tummy , very grippy and spasmed , the steroids constipated me , but on day 5 , my stools were v loose , another side effects.

I slept in the day for the first 6 days , but then I stated to feel better and was able to do jobs like school runs, cooking dinner... (I'm also still recovering from major abdominal surgery)

On Monday , my hair started falling out, it's now coming out thick and fast , second cycle on the 7/10 , having it cut and shaved on the 11/10.

Good luck, remember everyone reacts differently to treatment, this is just my account on my symptoms.

  • Hi,

In case you want to try it, I’ve found peach juice very good for getting rid of the metallic taste.

All the best for your next session of chemo,

    love Bx

  • Hi I think in my case it's the not knowing leading up to surgery worried  me . having the stitches removed until you experience  something you don't know what to expect.

And like you say everyone reacts differently. But iam finding this group is so much more helpful to me  than reading the information booklets.

You all sound so positive  and strong  I hope that I also will bring something to the group thankyou ladies xxx

  • You will most definitely bring something to the group , you're new to this but every bit of experience shared helps us all no matter how big or small .

Keep us up to date with your treatment. Good luck.

  • Thank you, I most definitely will keep intouch. Xx
