New and feeling concerned.

Hello

I'm new here and just wanted to say hi and share my concerns.

I've had recurring pain in my right side just under ribs when taking a breath in/sneezing/coughing etc for over a year. As the pandemic meant no face to face apts I was told it was probably costochondritis. It did ease but then started again earlier this year. As it was making my running difficult and thinking the initial diagnosis was wrong I contacted gp again and got a face to face apt in May.

The GP examined me (I was thinking gallstones) and said she would send me for a scan, she then asked about periods and I replied that I don't get any due to being on the mini pill, although I did mention I have experienced some break through bleeding which had been almost black with large clots.  She said well we will get that checked out too and do an internal scan as well.

Fast forward to last week, I had scans (still thinking gallstones or possibly a hernia as I thought I could feel a lump and had tenderness in the stomach) I then had a phone call from the gp the following day to say the ultrasound had shown a mass on my right ovary and I was being referred for a 2 week urgent apt to rule out cancer. I am now waiting for the apt to come through and had the ca125 test on Friday and don't yet know the results of this.

I am trying to stay positive but am feeling quite worried, I also keep thinking I am more at risk as my grandma died of ovarian cancer.

Hopefully I won't have to wait too long to find out.....thanks for reading xx

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community. I have a different type of cancer but can say I know exactly where you are coming from. One thing we all agree on is the waiting to get tested and then the endless wait for the results is the pits. I had all my scans etc. last year and Covid made a huge impact on timeframes. I naively thought from GP consult to seeing the surgeon pre-op would be 2 weeks. Things are definitely speeding up now so hopefully you won't have long to wait.

Any possibility of a cancer diagnosis causes stress and anxiety so to be able to talk to others in the same situation helps no end. As you've joined the Ovarian cancer group I'm sure other members will be along soon to chat and offer support.

It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and your journey to date. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) It’s helpful to other members with a similar diagnosis who can then hopefully answer your questions. It also means that you don't have to keep writing the same thing over and over. You can amend or update it at any time.

    Hello!

I am new and in near enough the same situation as you.  I have a ‘shadow’ on my ovary which a scan picked up.  I also have my CA125 back though and it’s over 300.

got a call from the doctor tonight.  I am now on the gynae fast track too.

she believes it is cancer with the scan and the bloods so much so that she has took me off a lot of my medication to give me a chance to be on top fighting condition for surgery.

my grandma also had ovarian cancer but she was stubborn and beat it in her 60’s (before I was born!)

Not sure what the gynae is going to do… feel a bit lost so it’s good to see someone else in the newbie stage too xxx

  • Hello

Wow, yes we are at exactly the same stage of our journey aren't we. I was told yesterday that my ca125 result was abnormal, but don't know the level as yet and I'm still waiting to hear from the hospital.

It's bloody scary isn't it, I am trying to stay positive but have my moments of thinking the worst. I was very tearful last evening but have woken up this morning feeling not so bad.

My symptoms seem to be heightened as well as I am now experiencing bloating, nausea and reflux so it's harder to put to the back of my mind.

I have decided to take the rest of the week off work, my job is fairly demanding and I just can't concentrate.

How are you feeling with symptoms etc?

I hope we both get our appointments soon and find out how we are going to be treated.

Look after yourself and keep me updated xx
