Hello out there. I have just joined this group as I thought it would be great to talk to others on a similar journey.
I was diagnosed with stage 3 last April. Since then I have had 4 chemo treatments, then a major op in August followed by 4 more chemo treatments. I am now on inhibitors and have a CT scan next month which I am dreading. Does this sound familiar?
hi , welcome to the group! your treatment and diagnosis follows mine except due to covid I had all my chemos up front last year. I started Olaparib in December and had my 3 monthly ct last Thursday, no phone calls yet so Hoping for the best! Scans never get easier sadly. But I think that if they scan regularly if anything pops up it can be treated soonest. Best wishes to you and let us know how you are doing. Worst Side effect on Olaparib I have is achy legs
take care
love and virtual hugs
Janet
Hi Janet
Like you I had all my chemo sessions and op in 2020. Can only praise the NHS for their speed following my diagnosis in April 2020.
Is Olarparib an inhibitor? Sorry about your achey legs Sounds like we have followed exactly the same route. I was put on Niraparib in January this year and should have a CT scan soon. Side effects of Niraparib are lack of appetite and nausea.
Really hope your CT results are good.
I have read a document that was on this site called “After the Treatment Finishes - Then What”. It is brilliant in that it acknowledges what we as people with cancer experience. I found it really helpful as I can relate to it.
Please share your results with me.
Virtual hugs and kisses
Hi yes I have read that article, think that its harder when you finish treatment it’s very difficult on your mental health. Yes Olaparib is a parp inhibitor like niraparib, think it depends what type of OC you have which one they give us! Xx
Janet
Hi Janet
Agreed, I found the article really helpful as it explains what we are feeling is normal.
Niiraparib is a new one. Did you have the op? My cancer is Stage 3 - ovarian and peritoneum, didn’t end up having to have a bag though
It’s so nice being able to exchange with someone who has and is going through it
Cheers

Hi Carole
yes i was stage 3c I had complete hysterectomy, cervix partial omentum and just to add to it all, the tumour was Spot welded to my appendix, so that came out as well! No liver or bowel removed fortutely. I have developed a hernia around my belly button , so its being monitored, probably have been added to the 4 million people waiting for surgery
My own fault I think, back In December I was moving my son’s bedroom furniture .....aghhhh
Janet
Hi Janet
We sound very similar - I made the surgeon laugh when I said “you’ve taken my appendix out, but they are like wasps - what’s their purpose”. Bad luck about the hernia, at least you are being carefully monitored though. Did you have to have a laparoscopy first, wonder whether that’s weakened the navel area? Mine’s not been the same since
How have your children coped?
Cheers
Carole
I didn’t have a laparoscopy, but I had a biopsy done with local anaesthetic under a ct scanner, which was quite painful so I think the hernia was more the wardrobe manoeuvres! I have a 17 Year Old son , he seemed to Cope Ok, I did hide a lot from him, always a smile on my face , but he was struggling with having his gcse’s cancelled as well so I just put on my brave face , very hard when you are going thru chemo and the pain of post surgery , we got there though, we are very Close which helped me . My husband said I deserved an Oscar! Little sod never managed to make me a cup of tea though! (Son not husband).
xx
Janet
Hi Janet
It’s been a tough year for everyone hasn’t it. Will your son be able to take his exams this year?
I have 2 sons, 38 and 39 (I was a child bride ). They have been incredible, my youngest lives in London but always came to stay for the week I had chemo. Fortunately my eldest is local and he visited most days after work. I live on my own and whilst I am very independent, I don’t know how I would have coped without them. We have always been very close.
We sound very similar, very strong and putting on a brave face.
I haven’t told them that I’m worried about what the CT scan will show. I expect you are having similar thoughts too

Sadly no , he was graded on teacher assessment, but he got what he wanted so was happy. He is in the first year of 6th form now so hopefully he will sit A Levels next year. I think no matter how old
your kids are, you still try to shield them. Your sons sound like they really support you . Not everyone has that . Scan week Is so stressful for us all I think , doesn’t get better with time either sadly xx
Janet
Hopefully the Covid restrictions will continue to ease so that life can be resumed more normally.
Do you still have an uncomfortable stomach after your op? My op was in August and whilst easier my stomach is uncomfortable. Did they tell you it would be around 18 months for the body to fully recover?
I agree about the stress factor with regard to scans. I do hope you haven’t got to wait much longer for your results.
Carole xx
