9 weeks into my journey

9 weeks ago I saw my GP as I was slightly bloated and felt uncomfortable.

Since then it’s been doctors, scans and waiting....In between that I had 9.6 litres of fluid drained from my tummy! Have to say that gave me some relief Grinning

Last Friday I was scheduled for de-bulking surgery. Once the team had opened me and taken a look, they decided not to proceed with the full procedure and ended up just taking a biopsy and closed me.

I was discharged from hospital on Wednesday evening and now at home. The feeling of helplessness is immense and quite overwhelming. The community team and district nurses are coming every day to help me with washing and changing my dressing and have been brilliant.

So, even though I’m really disappointed that Plan A didn’t pan out, there is a Plan B and my chemo journey starts in 4 weeks. Hoping my recovery from the surgery gets me to a better place so I can deal with the next phase.

Trying my best to take each day and not get too far ahead of myself, but it’s really hard sometimes.

  • Hi Mrs Skippy,

Sorry to hear about your journey over the past 9 weeks, but glad you’ve found this group for support.

Although you must be disappointed that plan A didn’t work out and you weren’t able to get all your surgery over in one go, it’s great to hear you sounding so positive about Plan B,  as in my experience, having faith in your medical team,  taking their plan for you one step at a time and trying to stay positive really helps immensely. Something else here on positive thinking you might want to take a look at:

Having had my surgery on December 23rd, then starting my chemo on January 21st, the best advice I can give you on how to spend the 4 weeks you have to recover and prepare is to listen to your body - sleep when you feel you need to, be as active as you’re able to be, eat well (I found little and often and limiting dairy and gluten worked best to avoid any bloating), and treat yourself to a nice long bath, good book, favourite film - whatever makes you feel good.

All the best for the next steps on your journey - and it’d be great to hear how you’re getting on if you feel like posting again.

    Love Bx
