So anxious and nervous

Hi there

I am so new to all of this and still a little confused.

But I am going out of my mind at the moment and csnr seem to budge the fear of possibly having ovarian cancer.

So I have had ongoing issues the past year with water infections and a pretty bad kidney infection in novenber 2020.

After a few time pushing the doctors, they eventually referred me for an ultrasound... They checked my bladder, kidney and ovaries

Bladder was fine, my right kidney was slightly fuller than the left, then they found a 6cm blood filled cyst on my right ovary. The gp then got back to me about these results and sent me for a full blood count test and also CA125.

All my blood tests came back completely normal and my tumour markers were not raised! Which was a relief.

I then went for a cystoscopy, my bladder and uerata were fine but he then sent me for a CT Scan, more so for my right kidney.

That's all come back normal. Would they suspect anything with the cyst on that ct scan? Or would that be a separate issue?

I received a letting 3 days ago saying I have an appointment with a genacologist on the 6th of May!!! Which is over 2 months away...I rang the hospital and they have said there is nothing earlier and to just ring to check for cancellations every so often.

I have been suffering with tummy cramps, back pain, persistent peeing + change in my bowels as on kfa painful. I've had no bleeding.

So I'm so worried that waiting that long isn't Ideal? The gp referred me as a routine rather than an urgent

So should I just take that as something not to worry about?

I'm sick with worry if I'm honest and have been in bed all day thinking worse case scenario. I feel so drained and lethargic and just don't know what to do!

I'm 29 and haven't even began to do all the things I want to do in my life. I'm just hoping it will just be a cyst and nothing more.

Sorry for the long message I just don't know who else to turn to about all of this.

Thankyou

Sammi

  • Hi Sammi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read how anxious and worried you are that you have ovarian cancer. It sounds like your doctor has been taking you seriously and has arranged for all sorts of tests and scans which so far have come back all clear.

Your GP has to follow the guidelines set out by NICE which tells him/her whether to refer you urgently or not. As you know that s/he has made a non-urgent referral that is why your appointment is in a few months time rather than a couple of weeks. However, as you said

I'm sick with worry if I'm honest and have been in bed all day thinking worse case scenario

I think that it may be a good idea to get back in touch with your GP and tell them how ill the worry is making you. They should be able to suggest ways for you to deal with the uncertainty and you could also ask why you've been referred as a non-urgent case.

I can see that you also posted a similar question in the ask a nurse section of the online community and wondered if you'd seen the reply yet. If not, clicking here will take you straight to it.

Do come back and let us know how you get on.

  • Hi Sammi I’m so sorry to hear that you are going through this. Ovarian cancer can be very tricky to pick up on scans in its early stages and CA 125 results can be misleading as there can be many reasons for elevated numbers and also some people who have ovarian cancer but CA125 remains low. I struggled for 2 years to get a diagnosis and although I had a number of tests and scans during that time, nothing showed up   My advice to you would be that if you are continuing to experience the symptoms of ovarian cancer then speak to your GP again and ask for an urgent referral under the suspected cancer pathway
