Hi Wave

im not even sure im in the right place, apologies if not.

I've been having lower middle, constant belly pain since my baby was born 1 year ago but not to bad where I did anything about it.

Around 3 months I started to have irregular bleeding so made an appointment with my GP.

Im now on day 30 of bleeding with no free days.

She felt around my belly and ordered blood tests.

The week later my GP called and said my CA125?? were above average and had ordered a ultrasound.

A couple of days later the hospital called and I went for my ultrasound the day after.

The Ultrasound showed a 10cm cyst with septation (I have no idea what that means?) attached to my left ovary.

I was then seen after my Ultrasound by a consultant (no idea who he is?) who sent me next door for more blood tests and said I needed a CT scan.

The day after the hospital called and asked me to come for a CT scan the next day.

I had the CT a week ago now and haven't heard anything since.

Cancer has never entered my mind, well until I read the piece of paper from the ultrasound that said Suspected cancer type - Ovary.

If it was Cancer, wouldnt I have heard something already?

I also thought people who had ovarian cancer were older? (Sorry if that sounds rude Two hearts)

Im 36 with 5 children and my baby just celebrated her 1st birthday then all this happened.

Sorry for the long post, im just really scared and will not Google anything to do with everything that's been happening.

Well if you got this far thank you for taking the time to read and I'd be extra grateful for any advice I can get.

I've forgotten what name I used on here already and ill probably delete the lot trying to find out so ill sign off with lots of love xxx

  • Hi Lucina,

So sorry you're going through this worrying and uncertain time. The waiting for test results is the worst. It sounds like your GP was on the ball to get these tests done asap. The CA125 is a marker for Ovarian cancer but it can be raised for other reasons too. I think it's worth calling to try and chase up your CT scan results. Maybe things are all running slower because of COVID but it's worth making the call.

I also thought, like you, that Ovarian cancer was something older ladies got, but I was diagnosed aged 40 in 2012. I had large cysts on each ovary and I'd been suffering from bloating and abdominal pain mostly, but no bleeding. I had Stage 3c - chemotherapy then a full hysterectomy then more chemo, and I'm very lucky to be cancer free now, ( I was discharged after 5 years). So please try to keep calm and wait to see what they say- I know it's not easy! And you've got your hands full with a baby and 4 other children, so I'm sure this is so difficult for you to keep going and not panic.

You're right not to Google anything because you'll end up more scared and things have really progressed with better options and treatments. It might be worth using the Ask the Nurse section on this site for any questions you have. I really hope you get some answers from the hospital very soon, and then you'll be given a plan of action if it is cancer, but hopefully there will be another explanation.

Let us know when you find out- there is always someone on here to offer advice and support for every stage.

    Big hugs,

    Natalie xx

Aww, thank you so much for your reply Natalie.

It really has meant so much!

Im working all weekend so I'll give them a call about the CT if I haven't heard anything Monday.

    Wow, 40.

Im so glad your cancer free, reading your experience has calmed me more than I thought it would.

I will make sure to keep you updated Blush

    Lots of love xxx

    Hi Lucina

NattyP has given you some good advice there, especially about staying off google at least until you have more definite information. I haven’t any wisdom to offer, but just want you to know you’re not alone.

Follow up on your scan results next week, and come back here if you need to talk, ask questions, vent, or whatever!

Well, I received 2 letters today and now I'm even more confused!

The 1st letter from the Gyne consultant to my GP who ordered the CT was great I think, well it reads good to me.

It says "The cyst is 9x4 cm, no solid areas or concerning features. This is reassuring."

It then goes on to say he's stepped me down from the two week wait pathway and asked for a telephone consultation with me in due course.

The 2nd letter which is addressed to me is for a telephone appointment not with that Gyne consultant but with one from the Gynaecological Oncology clinical team.

This makes absolutely no sense at all to me. If its just a simple cyst then why would I need a consultation with someone from Oncology?

Im wondering of this makes sense to anyone else, see it could be standard procedure for all I know and I'm panicking for no reason at all.

    Thanks for reading once again.

That’s definitely rather confusing! :( I’m sorry you’re having to go through the anxiety again just when you thought that was behind you. I really hope you get proper clear answers soon x

I had crossover letters from different departments saying conflicting things. If I had been monitored when a cyst was originally seen (and dismissed) I believe that I would have been diagnosed quicker and perhaps have been cancer free instead of which, by the time I was diagnosed I was in unbearable pain and then found to be at stage 3c.

its so hard not to worry but maybe your hospital are more thorough and follow up rather than the wait and see approach that sadly some other have.   More input is good Thumbsup tone3

  • Hi Lucina,

Thank you for sharing everything, I have read all the posts so far and completely echo what all these lovely & supportive ladies have to say. I am 27 years old and I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Trust me! I thought the exact same as you when it came to age but cancer really affects anyone regardless of the age.

It is good that you listened to your body and went to get everything checked and tested. Waiting for results can be tricky and very stressful...

I had a very similar experience when it came to doctors letters and the teams involved. I think they do it just to cover all bases, especially since it's a cyst in the ovaries. The reason they probably get the oncology team involved is to look out for specific markers or parts of the scan that look abnormal from an oncology point of view. In fact, the chances are the oncologist will ask more specific questions and prompt further to make sure everything is being looked into.

It was a very similar procedure to my experience. Try not to worry so much (easier said than done!).
