Hi Suebee, I was diagnosed with a borderline cyst 2010, the doc was adamant that it wasn't cancer, and that I shouldnt think that it was or worry, and they would monitor me.
In the meantime, I got pregnant, had a baby and forgot all about it. Unfortunately, I did get another cyst which they monitored, I told them I was not bothered about any more children and they eventually removed it and this time it was cancer.
My advice would be, listen to your doc, there are different grades, stages, types of OC. Be healthy, I believe exercise and diet can keep cancer at bay and I wish I had thought a bit more, oh I could get cancer, eat brocolli ;-) I also wish I had pushed for the 2nd cyst to be removed as soon as I had it, as I was diagnosed stage 1c ( the cyst burst) and I had to have 6 rounds of chemo. I wish they'd just taken it out instead of monitoring for maybe a further 6 months.
I was 39 when I had the hysterectomy and I am in menopause, yes it's a pain, I get flushes, everythings a bit dry (!!) but I am 41 now and it's not the end of the world. Leaving my baby daughter without a mum would be the end of the world. The outlook for early stage OC is really good. Maybe have your appendix out, further biopsies, and check it hasn't spread, you have been caught early and the fact that you are being monitored should hopefully mean the docs have it under control.
Good luck with your decision xxx
Hi Suebee
i was diagnosed today with a mucinous borderline ovarian tumour stage 1, I had my ovary and tube remove 4 weeks ago it was 17x13cm in size. I have been advised no further treatment just scans and bloods every 6 months.
i wondered what your outcome was I the end, did you have further treatment or were you monitored?
i am feeling very confused at the moment
em xx
Hi All
I am 51 and had a full hysterectomy 3 weeks ago. Whilst under, they take a frozen section of the tumours ( I had two - each around 8cm - 12cm each). My CA125 was 12000!!!
The result came back as 'borderline' and I am going for my final results tomorrow so am hoping the borderline diagnosis hasn't changed.
If a stage 1a (and a 1-2) I will escape chemo but 3 and above I will need chemo so fingers crossed for borderline.
The hospital said if left, the tumours would have turned cancerous so possibly found and removed just in time.
No signs of menopausal symptoms 3 weeks in?
My advice ( I know it helps as I've had my children) is don't take any chances - get it all out and reduce your chances of it coming back.
I was just as petrified of the operation as having a cancer diagnosis. However, I had no recollection of even being knocked out and woke up and it was all done. The pain relief was excellent and went home from hospital on day 4.
Yes take the advice of the doctors and professionals - but don't play russian roulette if there is a chance your prognosis can change.
Good Luck and wishing you all good health in the future.
K
