Hi I was told that we needed to use condoms for intercourse however is that for the whole time of treatment for example all the time during the 4 cycles or is it just the few days after the treatment ? Also would barrier creams be just as effective ?
I was also advised to not share toilet if I had to to use bleach ? How does that work in social circumstances?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I had chemotherapy for breast cancer and was advised to use a condom for the first few days after treatment. This is to protect your partner in case any of the chemotherapy drugs are in your bodily fluids. I assume a barrier cream wouldn't give the same protection but the best person to ask is your chemotherapy nurse.

I can't help with your question about using a toilet while out and about as we didn't go to public places while I was having chemo as I didn't want to risk picking up an infection. Hopefully one of the other group members will be along soon to help with that question.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'.
