Saw my surgeon two days ago. I have a recurrence, three years after my original diagnosis. Surgeon was great. He hopes to be able to remove the whole tumour -:hurrah! Will have a colostomy to live with, but lots of people cope with that. Then it will be chemo again. But feeling more optimistic than I was - at least I’m looking at one stoma, not the two than I feared.Only problem currently is that the internal exam he gave me has set off the urinary leaking and spotting that had gone away - hoping it will settle down again.
Now for a quiet family Christmas and surgery in the New Year.

  • Hi

That sounds like great news re the surgery! Also good that you can enjoy Christmas and New Year before your surgery. I've just finished chemo for another type of cancer and my radiotherapy won't start until after Christmas, so I too have a treatment free Christmas!!

You might find it useful to join the ileostomy, colostomy and stoma group as that will give you the chance to talk to others with a colostomy. If you think this might be helpful, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi

It’s difficult to find out you have a recurrence, but very positive to hear that you can have surgery. I live with two stomas after my particular surgery, and the colostomy is really the most straightforward of the two in a lot of ways! There’s a lot of helpful advice in the Stoma support group here in the community if you’d like to join that when you’re ready in the new year. Hope you can enjoy a peaceful Christmas and be ready to face the new year with a lot of hope for the future. Always happy to help with any colostomy questions too if you need.

  • Hope you have a good Christmas and that all goes well with the rest of your treatment x
