Hi lovely people, I'm writing today for any advice... I'm going into Hospital on the 20:6:22 for operation ( debunking) I can't say I'm not scared, however, it's just another journey I must take, I have had 5 chemotherapys, which I feel I've tolerated fairly good... I will have op then one or two more chemo's not sure after that..if anyone could give me tips on op I would greatly appreciate it..

Much love Thumbsup

  • Hi Holly I'm 10 weeks post op like you I had 4 chemos then surgery now having the final 2 starting this Tuesday. After that going to have avastin infusions 3 weekly for at least 12 months.

The surgery was fine I was offered as much pain relief as I wanted but found didn't need the morphine on day 2 but take whatever you need we are all different. The biggest problem is wind its so painful take mints with you they help and whatever they offer you for constipation. I was in for 7 days I loaded sky go on my tablet and took earphones with me,, I used the hospital WiFi and had a good signal. Keep moving about it also helps up and down the corridors. One thing I wasn't prepared for was a sort of period which started a week after coming home I was 66 at the time and was not aware this could happen I admit I panicked and called the helpline. Hope it goes well for you I can only say I feel great I had debulking omentum removed and small bowel resection. Good luck let us know how it goes.

  • Morning Pipi.... First off sorry about your diagnosis it is an awful shock (I know) ..but we have to just face it and get on, it is a scary time but rest assured we are here to help each other just Innocentowing someone else has been through the same thing does help massively. My first chemo was fine! It wasn't until I was leaving the house to go to hospital it hit me and I did get upset to think ' ThInnocent is really happening to me' but as I say it was fine! I feel we turn into ' Warriors' and face each day as it comes, Pipi you are brave, strong and positive, this is a journey for us all but we willInnocentet through it even if there are bumps on the way ( which there will be) let us know how your chemo goes and we are always here to chat, you talke it easy, I've sent one of my guardian Angels your waInnocentto keep you safe! thank you so much Hollybud - it really does help to talk to others who have already gone through it. i'm ready for battle!

  • Ahr! You go girl!!!!  I will be thinking of you on Friday, as I to will be at hospital for my pre-assesment hopefully I pass with flying colours,.. on chemo day take drinks, magazines and I found Ginger helped me, I didn't really suffer with sickness, I bought ginger sweets ( Holland & Barrettes) ... Much love.

  • Hi.. I went for Pre-assesment today, I did awful, so they say I'm high risk! How was pre-assesment for you? I've been told I will go into the high Dependency unit after op also told op could take all day! ...was this the same for you? Oh I'm a little scared when I was told of all the complications after surgery...

  • Bless you the team have to give you all the information, it's hard to take in. I had to have a laporoscopy before debulking to see if they would need a bowel surgeon on standby for a colostomy, luckily it was just a bowel resection. The surgery was about 4 and half hours and as with all major surgery a high dependency bed will be available. I do class myself as one of the lucky ones just had my 5th chemo one more to go. You have worst case scenario in your head that's hard to get your head round, but it might not be. I booked a little 5 day holiday in Wales for me and my pickles (terrier dog) 10 weeks post op, try to imagine what you can do after the op. On a positive note my hair has grown back and I love it when I go on the avastin 3 weekly it doesn't take it. Keep thinking the positive thoughts it's just an op your strong you have come this far go girl kick it into touch.

  • You are right I know..but for first time in all of this I didn't feel strong ( I do feel so weak ) I am anemic so don't think that's helping, I've had a pint of blood and on iron but still anemic! ... I was given a ' blow thing with balls in to try and strengthen my breathing so I will get on that, also I'm going to push myself into a bit more excercise to try and strengthen myself up. Omg my little boy Bobby (a Yorkie) had turned into my therapy dog, he put a smile on my face each day, so you are right again I will get through this.. I'm sure all these wobbles will be soon forgot about  after op and I'm home cuddling my Bobby!!  Wow! Hair! What's that? I'm getting so used to my shinny head but I do miss my hair! ... Ah you are a lovely lady thank you for advice! It is helping me.. have a good weekend.

  • It's tough, I'm sat here with aching bones, nauseated and feeling my age but tomorrow I will feel better cause it is day 5 following chemo. We will get there we are strong woman and have little therapy dogs mines called pickles. Chin up just do what you can.
