I now have a 30 drain inserted for asceties, following 2 stints in hospital , may then have a plurex drain - has anyone had experience of this ?
I then ended back in hospital with severe vomiting, needing lots of drugs and iv to get it under control
came out feeling ok only to start that same night with extreme vomiting , have not eaten for days and feel extremely weak . Managed to stay home with on call doctor Visiting to give an injection and drugs
I am due to start chemo again this week (taxol) just hoping I’m strong enough and can manage to get some food inside me
Margo
Oh Margo I have no experience of what your going through my ascites was drained and having now started chemo it's almost gone. All I can say is my heart goes out to you with a great big virtual hug. I'm sure somone will be able to shed some light on you issue. Thinking of you.
Hi Margo,
Really feel for you going through all this……
I don’t have a drain fitted so can’t really advise on that I’m afraid, but I have recently spent some time in hospital due to a bowel obstruction, which was causing severe vomiting and left me very weak. A stomach drain for a few days, and nutrition on IV to give my bowel a chance to rest, seems to have fixed me up (fingers crossed) and I’m now home and on a low-fibre / low-residue diet for the foreseeable future to try to prevent it happening again.
Has your doctor recommended any other ways to get the nutrition you need while you’re unable to eat? I was advised to take build up protein drinks (fortisip) if ever I couldn’t eat my meals. Also, try to make anything you can eat plain, high carb and high calorie to build up your strength.
I hope you’re feeling strong enough when chemo day comes around - I was able to carry on with my chemo throughout, although adding nausea from the taxol into the mix with the vomiting was a challenge, I won’t deny. They can hopefully give you anti-sickness meds that will help though.
All the best, and would love to hear how you get on if you feel like posting again,
love Bxx
