Hi, My world has fell apart again !.

waited 6 weeks to get back on taxol after recent scan revealed OC growth in all areas. My platelets have been dropping each week , now down to 56 . I have been feeling unwell , lots of bruising , night sweats , headaches . My bloods have been tested , I had to push for this as I was getting desperate waiting around , knowing something wasn’t right.

Ive had an emergency bone marrow aspiration, it’s looking highly likely I have Leukaemia, which has been brought on by chemo . I’ve had carboplatin , pacitaxol, doxorubicin and rubraca maintenance for the last 6 months on and off.
I am totally gutted , we sign the green forms knowing we have 1% chance of getting this side effect, but never think it will happen . Has anyone been in this situation ? I haven’t a clue what will happen next. How can my body deal with 2 cancers at one time . X

  • Hi Deblorraine, and so sorry to hear your latest news Cry.

As you say, we all understand when we sign up for these treatments that there are small groups of people who have a bad reaction, or for whom they just won’t work…..but we hope we’ll get a break of luck after everything we’re already  going through, and for once, just be one of the “normal” rather than “special” ones.

Can’t pretend I have any answers for what happens next I’m afraid, but as someone graded 2b, who after surgery and chemo going well ended up in the 30% of people with platinum resistant cancer, and in the even smaller group who have a recurrence within 3 months, I can certainly sympathise with the feeling of wanting to be part of the majority for who things run smoothly for a change.

I hope your oncologist will be able to provide some answers and alternatives for you - meanwhile be thinking of you,

    love Bxx
