I’m 33 and have had two dermoid ovarian cysts in the last 14 years. I now have another cyst on my left ovary however this time it is not a dermoid cyst and my consultant is worried it could be malignant.
I had an appointment with my consultant today and they are going to operate in the next 4 weeks, to remove the cyst and my left ovary. They won’t know if the cyst is cancerous until it is removed.
I feel in a really odd limbo not knowing if it’s a completely benign cyst or something more worrying. Obviously I’m scared in case it is cancerous but I’m also really worried as to how this could affect my fertility. My partner and I were planning to try and start a family later this year.
if anyone has been in a similar situation I would really appreciate any advice or tips to help me to not overthink this situation.
Hi Ash,
I’m afraid I don’t have any personal experience to help you in this respect, but I noticed you hadn’t received any replies yet (I guess because we are largely an older and often post- menopausal group here). So I just wanted to suggest you might search around the other gynae cancer chat rooms - not sure if any have a specific “younger” group, but hoping you might find somebody to connect with who’s going through similar anxieties about fertility to yourself.
Wishing you all the best for the future,
Love Bx
