I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer November 2019 I'm currently on chemo how can I cope with all this

  • Hi

It's natural after being diagnosed with cancer to wonder how you are going to cope. I'm not sure if you mean emotionally or maybe financially or coping with work or just in general.

You might find this information from Macmillan about just being diagnosed helpful as there are links to various things such as emotional help and work support, etc.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

I ask myself this same question about my story, I have so far been fortunate not to have chemo, just 2 surgeries, but one thing I have found has helped me no end is a psychologist. To have someone to talk to who isn't a friend or family member, who you can say what you want to and not feel any guilt. It is hard sometimes to say to all friends and family, do you know what my life currently sucks way more than all of yours! Which I think is perfectly reasonable feeling to have, sometimes we need to pitty ourselves, but we also need to know how to get out of that pitty cycle and start to learn to cope and having therapy is great way to do that. Having that hour every week to speak freely about how I feel really helps me get from week to week sometimes, just knowing I can unload everything there.

Always remember you are stronger than you know.

    Hope that helps :)
