Hi There Everyone,

Hope my post finds you all fighting and keeping as well as you can?

I had my 1st of 6 cycles of Carboplatin/Paclitaxel 2 weeks today and although i had been given the literature on the side effects and been told them i thought i was better prepaired for what was to come.

Now my story may be different from others as everyone's body deals with it in different ways but my experience has not been a walk in the park. 1st few days totally floored with flu like symtoms, metalic taste in mouth, tender mouth, horrendous nausea, banging sore head, fatigue and just not myself.

2 weeks on and 2 different lots of anti-sickness meds still nauseated, back pain, stomach pain like tightness? I have picked up a UTI which i have an anti-biotic for. Personally i dont think its a UTI as its at both sides of my waist just above my hips and the 2 areas feel hard and sore to press?

I had a CT scan done last Tuesday as consultant wanted a benchmark of where we are just now and one to be done again at end of chemo. I had a chat with her to discuss the results of this and she had said there had been no progression although the cancer was still present (pockets of noggles) and that my lymph nodes were 1cm. No one had ever mentioned lymph nodes to me all i knew was the cancer was advanced and that there were pockets still there?

I am also experiencing my scalp being tender and bit nippy but I know that will be the hair starting to come out?

I would love to hear from anyone that has gone through similar as myself or has any advice, hints etc that may help.

Sorry for the long post and thank you for listening....

  • Hi Shelly

I don't have the experience you're looking for but I noticed that your post hadn't had any responses yet.

While you're waiting for replies you could use the search facility in the group to look for posts which mention the same problems that you're experiencing. You can put key words in like 'Carboplatin/Paclitaxel' to narrow down the search.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could update your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. Don't forget to select 'Save' when you've finished adding to it.

Hi Shelly, I am on the same chemo as you, I have stage 4b and I had 5 rounds then was in a position to have surgery which was 6 weeks ago and now back on the Chemo a werk ago for the last 3 rounds.  For me my legs have been affected the most they just don't feel like they belong to me for about 2 weeks then I always feel loads better on the werk running upto the next round. My hair came out a week before third round and its so sore that I ended up getting my son to shave my head so that it was one less thing to worry about, Aveena scalp relief shampoo is really good and eases the scalp.  Day after chemo this time round I felt great, day 3 awful hot sweats/flashes, indegestion restless legs terrible fatigue neauseaand pain like everywhere on the inside has been kicked. This lasted 3 days and then I started to feel a bit better.  I find drinking loads and gentle exercise really helps, just walking is all you need it will really help I promise.  Rest lots drink loads of fluids and move about as much as your able will help you recover, I know this as I am a fitness instructor and ironically qualified to teach level 4 exercise for cancer rehabilitation so even during lock down I walked round and round my garden for upto 30 minutes a day when I was not having the worst of the symptoms, I'm not bragging but both my surgeon and oncologist have told me I am remarkable how well I am doing so it's worth a try hun.

Let me know how you go and if you ever need to talk I'm here.

    Take care xx
