Hey Wave tone1

I suffered a miscarriage on 09/06/2020. Upon ultrasound the gynaecologists were unhappy with a mass they found in my pelvis. Due to highly prevalent family history of both ovarian and breast cancer, They took CA125 Markers which came back raised, so I had a CT scan done on 11/06. The CT confirmed an unusual/suspicious mass but also showed it to be quite a lot bigger than they originally thought (they thought 6-6.5cm it’s actually 10.5cm). They have now requested an MRI which will take place on 10/07. Did anyone else have both scans during the diagnostic period? i have had bad bloating, severe pelvic pain, forever needing a wee, and always feel full after 3-4 bites despite being starving before eating. I have also lost my appetite so even when hungry I struggle to bring myself to eat. What was everyone else’s experiences and next steps? Did you have both MRI and CT? And what was your outcome, and if cancer what stage? xxxxx

Hi Sc1996, I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage and that you are going through this worrying time. I hope I can help with your question on diagnostic imaging. It is usual for clinicians to request a CT scan as a first investigatory step. However an MRI scan provides much more detailed images to give the clinicians more information. Therefore clinicians will often request an MRI scan following a suspicious CT scan result. If the clinicians need to investigate still further after this, then they will need to obtain a tissue biopsy from any suspicious areas. This will give the clinicians as much information as possible about what might be going on. The diagnostic process is a worrying time, but it sounds like your clinical team are following the standard process.
