Good afternoon everyone. Never expected to find myself here on a Saturday afternoon, but would be hugely grateful for any thoughts.

Last September I started having awful pains in my hip, groin and calf which were particularly bad at night.  The gp said sciatica and gave me a week’s sleeping tablets. No good. Another gp said sciatica too and gave me codeine and naproxen. Still no good. I then went to the practice physio who said that my pelvis was out of alignment and put it back in. Still in pain. He then thought it could have been a hip sprain or bursitis. I just decided to grit my teeth and get on with it.

Last Friday my calf became enlarged and was 4cm bigger than the other one. Saw a nurse practitioner who did blood tests and sent me for an ultrasound. No clot, which was excellent. She rang me yesterday to say that my blood tests have shown high inflammation markers, anaemia and a high ca-125 level? I asked if this could point to the worst case scenario and she said that she was worried. Now referred for urgent gynae appt but am so shell shocked. I don’t have any swelling or bloating. I do pee a lot but I had a child aged 42 and have been peeing a lot since I had him... Do have pain down groin and occasionally in the tummy. I am frightened and just wanted to share. Is leg pain a common symptom? Trying not too google too much....

Doh!  you two are having a tough time.

How annoying they've moved the date Emm! Frustrating and inconvenient. You get all psyched up too.

Good news Karen on something being clear. Hooray. Wish they could have done that biopsy closer.

Well we all deserve a chilled relaxed weekend.

I'm going to enjoy the post steroid slump by flopping on the sofa with Netflix. Hope you amazing ladies enjoy some downtime before more medical interventions.

    Thank you,

what a day never went down till 3.30pm by which time my veins didn’t want to play.

so was late by the time I arrived on the ward with no update to how things went. I’m hoping I was dillusional as I feel like I heard someone say in recovery they couldn’t get left ovary out? But I suppose I will find out soon enough.

the surgeon said I will get results in couple of weeks if all clear but will call me in for a chat if anything shows up and starts explaining about borderline tumors etc followed by but we aren’t expecting that lol so still non the wiser and still feel like I’m getting mixed signals.

anyway thanks for thinking of me and I’m now desperately waiting for a cuppa as not had one for 24hrs as I was so sick last night x

Hi Emm, you did that thing...go you!

I expect you might find out more today with any luck. But you did it and now you can start healing.

Hope you enjoyed the cuppa! It's the best ever after surgery. And hope the nausea has gone. Stuck out tongue closed eyes

Plenty of rest for you now. Feet up and get spoilt. I might join you Joy

    Hi Sheila,

just thought i’d check in to see how you are feeling? Did you have your sofa slump with Netflix? I sure hope so. I am having a stent put in my ureter on Friday to maintain my kidney function... done with a local?!?! Geez. Off to Aberdeen then next week for a keyhole biopsy. Things are starting to move. Feeling very afraid but trying to ‘be brave’.

    big hugs to you xxxxx

Dr been, said was extremely difficult adhesions have stuck everything together said cyst was massive with at least a litre of fluid he’s sent that off but left side ovary they couldn’t get out but drained it off and took top off ovary for biopsy if needed would have to look at opening chest down but would likely cause damage to bowel so wanted to have checked first said wants to see me after rocovery to see how it is. Thinks will be ok but again wait for biopsy Rolling eyes feeling ok(ish) thanks x

Bonus to this ive lost 11lb overnight Joy

    Hello Karen,

Oh gosh, I'm sure getting a stent on a local will be better for you as you won't get the after effects of anaesthetic but I can understand you feeling afraid. It's all a bit overwelming. You're being amazing. This whole journey is scary and being brave is our armour.

Good luck for next week too. It'll be good to get the results and get a plan to work towards.

I'm not so good at the moment. My chemo was cancelled today as I'm struggling with the side effects. Weekly chemo is hard on your body.  I get a week off and hopefully will feel better next week. I've got 4 more to go and then will be having targeted therapy for the next 12 months. But at least that's every 3 weeks.

Big hugs to you too xx

    Hi Emm,

Well done on your weight loss! Worse diet ever lol. I lost 15lb when they took mine out, it was rediculous. You've been walking around with a watermelon down there bless you. Thank goodness it's gone!

It's painful waiting for results but at least you no longer have to carry that around with you.

Take it easy, you've had a tough time.

    Sending hugs xxxx

    Hello,

Just thought i’d check in to see how you are feeling now? I put on my big girl pants and had the stent put in my ureter! Not pleasant but not the worst. The Dr relented and gave me a sedative. He told that it would feel as if i’d had a double sherry! He obviously didn’t know me at all, half bottle of a decent gin maybe..but sherry?!

Went to Aberdeen last week for the keyhole biopsy. Didn’t realise they went in through your belly button... gawd. The surgeon came to see me the night before and was fairly pessimistic. He wasn’t sure if he’d even manage to get to the mass as it was in such an awkward place. Also thought that it may be a type of sarcoma growing from a muscle.

As it transpires he told me afterwards that he was pleasantly surprised when he went in. He feared that there would be nasties everywhere but it all seems to be local to the lump. It’s grapefruit sized and sitting beneath the left ovary. What he could see of the ovary looked clear but he couldn’t see it all. The womb looked clear too. On initial examination the lab folk said that it didn’t look like a regular sarcoma to them. Time will tell, just waiting for the call.

Overall I feel ok, never seem to get rid of the hip and leg pain though.

I can’t have a wee dram at all due to my daily blood thinning injections but by god I could go an ice cold wine just now!!!

Hope your treatment is going a bit better, Look forward to hearing from you.

    Big hugs

    karen xxxx
