Mom diagnosed with Stage IIB mucinous ovarian cancer

Hi there, I am new.  My mom had a giant tumor the size of a back in her abdomen.  After many tests and surgery she had the tumor removed and all others found in her abdomen. (appendix, necrotic tissue, lesion on omendum and both ovaries.)  She is 74 and had a partial hysterectomy when she was 35.  This is a rare form of ovarian cancer that doesn't respond to chemo.  They want to put her on chemo, 6 rounds, for possible "microscopic" cells.  I don't like that because the outcome was only 10% improvement with chemo.  Why destroy your healthy cells for 10% better outcome?  Has anyone had the same kind of cancer and did alternative therapies, healthy diet etc WITHOUT chemo and had great results.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
