Hi
I am about to start chemo following total hysterectomy and stage 1C diagnosis
I have been given 3 options and I am very overwhelmed as to what decision to make
Option 1 - do nothing
Option 2- Just Carboplatin - not too bad in terms of side effects and no hair loss - only 1 hour infusion * 6 at 3 week intervals
Option 3 Carboplatin and Paclitaxel. More harsh. Probable hair loss. 6hour infusion *6 every 3 weeks
Studies are contradictory
Does anyone have experience of this?
Any advice welcome as to how to make decision
Thanks
Same boat last year.
Blood tests and scan post-op showed no evidence of reoccurrence so it was ultimately decided that, as it was grade 1 so slow growing, the risk of reoccurrence didn’t outweigh the risk of chemo and long term effects from that and so, very close monitoring would be the best option.
Hi Green30
I wasn't given the option of treatment after my hysterectomy but I wish I had. I'm sorry that you find yourself in the position of having to choose an option, none of which you really want to.
I'm starting 6 sessions of carboplatin & paclitaxel today and although it's not the first chemo I've done, it does seem daunting.
When I've considered whether to have treatment, I've thought about in 5 years time, will I feel like I took all options to prevent a recurrence. If you read my bio in my profile you will see all of the treatment I've had.
When I've consider which treatment, I've weighed up family impact, work, finances (which I know I shouldn't but in reality I still have to pay my bills). And one of the most important factors was speaking to others here and in a Maggie's support group, that's been invaluable to speak with others who have already walked the path before me. But it's never an easy thing to choose and I wish you the best in whatever you choose

Hi,
I also have a stage 1C1 diagnosis, I had a hysterectomy in November 24 for stage 1a uterine cancer, op was successful for this but when checking the cyst on my ovary they found stage 1C1 cancer. I had a staging op to remove lymph nodes in Jan 25 which thankfully showed no further cancer. I also was offered the do nothing after the first operation but my consultant advised me the best approach would be to have the staging op & chemo. I wasn’t offered the Carboplatin only option. I have just completed my 3rd chemo round, I did lose my hair just before the 2nd round but apart from that the side effects have been minimal, only some pins & needles pain in my legs, which last about 3 days. I was in good physical health before starting the chemo. Hope this helps any other questions just message me. Wishing you lots of luck for whatever lies ahead. ️
