I’ve received my letter from my last scan after my 6th chemo the drs had a meeting and I have some lymph nodes which are looking suspicious I’m being sent for a pet scan what can be done if cancer has returned .

  • Hello LK11,

I am sorry to hear that your last scan showed a concern with some of your lymph nodes. I had a similar chemotherapy to yours in 2022 for endometrial cancer.

It is always worrying when something crops up on a scan that looks suspicious but it sounds as if the pet scan is being done to be really thorough. Once it is done then they will have a better idea at what is going on and what other treatment could be given- if needed.

I was told for my own cancer- which is similar with treatment- that sometimes the cancer may not respond to one type of chemotherapy, but could respond to a different types. I was also told about immunotherapy treatments, targeted therapy and sometimes hormonal treatments can be used. It will really depend on what shows up on the scan. I was also told that if mine came back sometimes surgery can be an option.

I hope that the scan can be done quickly and can clarify what is going on. It is always difficult at times like this, and I can remember my own experiences of chemotherapy and just wanting it to be done and to get on with life again. Sometimes there can be set backs and these can be difficult to cope with.

I can recommend giving the Support Line a call, if you feel like talking things through would help. If you speak with one of the nurses they may be able to give you a better idea of treatments that might be offered. Really though from my own experience, it's hard to predict what could be done next without those scan results. And there is also the possibility that although they are looking suspicious, it may turn out that there is a different reason for this.

I hope you do not have to wait too long for the scan. In the meantime, we are here if you need us.

    Jane
