Tumor found on ovary during hysterectomy

Hi

During an elective full hysterectomy a tumor was found on my one remaining ovary. As part of the surgery this was removed.

10 days after the surgery I received a phone call to tell me about the tumor and to let me know they were having a MDT meeting either that week or the following week between colleagues in 2 hospitals.

What does all this mean, and how long before I hear anything. Should I be calling my consultants’ secretary?

Thanks

  • Hi

sorry to hear this but sounds like they had captured it early.

MDT is a multi disciplinary team who meet to discuss cases and next steps.  So this will include your surgeon most likely plus any other skilled person involved in the process.

ive got stage 4 ovarian and had debunking surgery last Friday and small bowel resection but no stoma.  My MDT’s will meet to discuss results from the op so my consultant oncologist takes the next best steps in my treatment.

if you are worried speak to your oncology team who can explain things to you.

wishing you the best possible outcome x

  • Hello Teddy

I hope you are doing ok though in a physical sense post surgery - its a tough old operation.  As Trish has already mentioned about the MDT - I won't add anything about that.   I also hope Trish is recovering well from her surgery also.   It really is a big deal for us ladies.

Once the MDT have met, they will contact you to arrange a face to face meeting to discuss any next steps.

I know how hard it is to wait - it really is the worst but once you get that meeting out of the way post MDT - then you will feel a level of certainty about what is happening next.

My biggest learning point last year and throughout my journey was to really learn to live in the present even if there are scans due, results due, treatment due - I used to just say to myself right now at this point - I am alive, I am ok and I am doing something I really love.   It was the most important lesson of the year!

    Good luck x

  • Thank you - I’m so glad I reached out. You have made me relax just a little bit x

  • Thank you so much - I hope you’re doing Ok

i will try and speak to my consultants secretary tomorrow, even if it’s just to get an idea on timescales - the not knowing anything at all seems far worse

  • Yes, do that as the not knowing can be stressful and your oncology team will be amazing and only too glad to re assure you

hope it all goes well for you
