Did anybody have a biopsy for the mass before it was removed?
Ive been reading online that biopsies tend not to be done because of the risk of any cells spilling etc. However it was unclear prior to surgery where the origin was as it was in the retro peritoneum - they weren’t sure if it was gynaecological or a sarcoma.
Presumably if it had been decided sooner that it was ovarian, then there would not have been a biopsy.
Hi Glass Full , yes I had biopsy to identify type of ovarian cancer to inform the treatment plan. Surgery was not done before the biopsy. My understanding is that the treatment plan is based on individual needs and I think it’s not unusual for biopsies to be taken before surgery. Take care and I hope you get clarity soon about your treatment plan . It’s hard I know. X
For my biopsy i had it under local, they numbed my stomach, then went in and snipped in about 3 areas. Surprisingly i did not find it a painful procedure - it was called a 'CT guided biopsy' . I had to have it done this way as i was unable to have the vaginal ultrasound biopsy where they go up inside you with a smear type instrument and take snips that way .
